Meaning of I am the resurrection by Jesus the Christ

Question: Could the scripture of John 11:25 be promising earthly longevity to those who die to a life of disobeying universal principles? It reads He said to her, ‘I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in Me will live, even though he dies.’

Answer:

Thank you for the question my brother. Clearly, this scripture is not “promising earthly longevity to those who die to a life of disobeying universal principles”. Earthly live (life in a physical body) requires universal principles to be followed to keep it e.g. eating, drinking, breathing, action/doing (exercise), prayer/recollection/meditation (to grow and maintain connection to the divine) etc. It is re-enforcing the Truth that each human is more than the body and mind, and that by renewing your mind, you can be assured of eternal (unending) life. In those days, much like today, people feared death, and took it to be the end of life.

“I am the resurrection” signifies that Jesus embodies the essence of life beyond the physical realm. He was not just referring to his own physical resurrection, but rather to the eternal and transformative power of spiritual resurrection available to each person. In essence, Jesus is asserting that through him (the I am), one can experience a rebirth into a new way of being, transcending the limitations of the material world.

The resurrection of Jesus the Christ as marked on Easter holds immense significance in the realm of defeating death. It symbolizes victory over the ultimate fear and limitation that death represents. By rising from the dead, Jesus demonstrated that life is not confined to the physical body, but is eternal and boundless. This serves as a beacon of hope for humanity, illustrating that death is not the end, but merely a transition into another form of existence.

What we can learn is that whatever the circumstances you are in, Jesus’ resurrection signifies the triumph of divine (infinite) love over darkness and despair. It showcases the power of spiritual transformation and the possibility of renewal and redemption for all beings. Through his resurrection, Jesus offers humanity the promise of salvation and the opportunity to transcend the cycle of birth and death, leading to eternal life in union with the divine.

It serves as a reminder that no matter how bleak or hopeless a situation may seem, there is always the potential for resurrection and renewal, both in this life and beyond. The only requirement is that you be in Christ, i.e. in knowledge that you are one with God Almighty.

Resurrection as Transformation:

  • Death isn’t just a physical ending, but a shedding of limitations. Jesus could be seen as saying that he embodies the process of transformation that goes beyond physical death.
  • This transformation can be spiritual – a continual letting go of the ego and living a life connected to something greater.

Resurrection as Eternal Life Force:

  • Many spiritual traditions point to an underlying life force or energy that animates everything. Jesus is saying that he connects us to this ever-present life force, even beyond physical death.
  • It is a reminder that our essence or consciousness transcends the physical body. Gaining back this knowledge that was lost when man was deceived to partake of something that will make man be the same as God, when in actual sense man was and has always been one with God- is the resurrection.

Seeing Yourself as the Resurrection:

  • In some interpretations, Jesus is urging us to see the potential for resurrection within ourselves. We can continually be reborn, shedding old ways of thinking and embracing growth.

Death as an Illusion:

  • Some spiritual traditions view death as an illusion, a doorway to another way of being. Jesus’s resurrection reinforces this idea, showing us that there is life beyond the physical realm.

These are just some ways to interpret Jesus’s words. The beauty of spiritual exploration lies in finding your own meaning and connection to these ideas. I recommend you read the verses around the crucifixion and resurrection of Jesus with intent to understand or better to overstand. You can also read the Law of One, and A Course in Miracles.
